23 NovOvarian Cysts and Pregnancy – Pain & How to Relieve It

Ovarian cysts and pregnancy are not a good combination. The long term effects of this on you and your developing child are quite bad with many women suffering ruptured cysts or twisted cysts which can result in premature births or often a miscarriage!

The short term effects however are usually related to the pain of a cyst as it presses against your internal organs and against your growing child. Cysts can often grow larger and he pain if they are twisted can be intense to the point of agony. This is not just bad for you but the pain and stress you feel has a knock on effect to your baby who is completely linked in to your internal systems.

So to protect your child and yourself from this pain here are a few pain relief tips.

  • Heat – Heat packs and hot water bottles are a good way to apply heat to your back where it can seep in to promote blood flow and ease pain. A hot bath can also help to relieve ovarian cyst pain and will relax you too which is important to de-stress.
  • Massage – While it might seem like madness to apply pressure to an area being pressured by a cyst this does help to relax the muscles around that area and promote blood flow. This can reduce pain from ovarian cysts while pregnant.
  • Avoid Pain Killers – Not so much a ‘to do’ thing but a word of advice. Pain killers can cause side effects that can be harmful to your child in some women and may make you feel quite ill. More natural pain relieving herbs such as white willow bark and even aromatherapy has been useful for many women to relieve pain and relax

However none of these will cure a swollen ovarian cyst. You must take action against your hormonal imbalance to shrink a cyst which takes a change in lifestyle and a dedication to it which should be an easy choice to make when your child’s life might be effected.
